Hunters are loosing arrows at the sleeping animals. Tap to light the sky and stop them before they land.
Tap to loose a silver arrow. Where it lands, moonlight bursts, and any hunter's arrow it touches is stopped. A stopped arrow flashes too, so a chain of arrows can fall together.
Aim ahead of the falling arrows, because yours takes a moment to arrive. You have a limited quiver each night, and unspent arrows score a bonus. Survive seven nights to see the dawn.
Keyboard: arrow keys or WASD move the crosshair, and Space looses an arrow.
Keyboard: P or Esc pauses. Space or Enter starts, resumes, or retries. Switching tabs pauses the game.
Artemis×Missile Command
This game started as Paper Toss, which belongs on my list of childhood games for how simple it was: judge the wind and try to land one good shot. That version never felt as good as I wanted, so I rebuilt it around a different classic, Missile Command, where the fun is protecting something from above.
Artemis is the goddess of the hunt and a protector of wild animals. The golden-horned Ceryneian hind was sacred to her. When Heracles captured it for one of his labours, Artemis confronted him for harming her animal.
Missile Command is an Atari arcade game from 1980. Missiles rain down on your cities, and you fire defensive shots that explode in the sky, destroying anything caught in the blast. Ammunition is limited each wave, so you learn to make one explosion count.
Hunters’ arrows fall on six sleeping animals, and Artemis lights the sky with moonlight to stop them. Her silver arrows burst where they land, and a stopped arrow flashes too, so one good shot can take several. Surviving seven nights brings the dawn. The glade is an invented arcade scene inspired by Artemis’s protection of wild animals.
Missile Command, guarding a sleeping glade from the hunt.
Click, or move the crosshair with the arrow keys and press Space. Moonlight stops any arrow it touches.
